Travel and Leisure magazine has announced the winners of its annual World’s Best Awards, voted for by its readers, and its Beirut that tops the list of best food cities, beating both San Sebastián and Paris into second and third place respectively.
Readers were asked to rate their favourite destinations on a variety of qualities, including food. Food tourism is on the rise (check out this infographic) and this year, Beirut, Lebanon is the place to be for gastronomes looking for the best food cities.
T & L praise the Lebanese capital for its “cultural renaissance ... where even breakfast is exciting,” marking out goat tartare, lamb porridge with wild thistle and a fatteh of toasted pita, chickpeas, yogurt and pine nuts as dishes to try.
