Chef Anton Mosimann OBE is something of a hoarder. The two Michelin star former Maitre Chef de Cuisines of The Dorchester and chef/patron of Mosimann’s in London has, over his five decades in the business, collected an astonishing number of items of culinary history, in the form of cookbooks, mementos and furniture.
Highlights of The Mossiman Collection include a 16th century instructional tome from the papal kitchens and a menu from the 1896 banquet marking the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. There are close to 1500 objects in the collection (his personal horde is said to stretch to over 6000).
Permanent Home
Now, this rich culinary history will be open to the public one day a week. The Mosimann Collection will have a new permanent home at the Swiss Education Group’s César Ritz Colleges Campus in Le Bouveret, on Lake Geneva and will be available for public viewing on Sundays, while students will be able to immerse themsleves in the history of food all week.
In 2011, Mosimann cooked the wedding banquet for Prince William and Kate Middleton – one suspects he kept a souvenir or two.
Is there anyone more important to culinary history than Georges Auguste Escoffier?
