If anyone was short of more excuses to head to the Basque country culinary capital that is 'San Sebastian', fear not, there is another jewel arriving in its star studded culinary crown that will make it even harder to stay away this summer:
Chef Hélène Darroze, also known as the World's Best Female Chef 2015 has unveiled plans to open a pop-up restaurant in San Sebastian's Hotel Maria Cristina, in June.
Taking up the culinary reins at San Sebastian's five star hotel, for five months, from June 8th to 30th October, chef Darroz will put her signature spin on a selection of pintxos menus (Basque Country tapas-style dishes) using locally-sourced and seasonal produce.
The Basque culinary capital is a natural choice for the acclaimed French chef, who despite boasting Michelin starred restaurants in Paris, Moscow and London, has always harboured a desire to return to her culinary and childhood roots.
As Darroze explained in Luxury London: “San Sebastian has always been part of my identity as my grandmother and her family were from Hendaye, which is very close by. I've built much of my culinary DNA in this amazing city, having visited many times. It is truly one of the gastronomic capitals of the world.”
Information
Hélène Darroze at Hotel Maria Cristina will open for lunch and dinner, Wednesday to Sunday from 8 June – 30 October, with a selection of three different menus priced at €98, €125 and €175 per person.
