La Liste’s Top 10 Restaurants in the World

Are these the top 10 restaurants in the world? They are according to La Liste - a new ranking that promises to give a definitive selection of 1000 of the most ‘exceptional restaurants’ in the world today.

Set to unveiled on December 17th, La Liste have just released their top 10 selection and their top 20 for America - a rating they say is decided by comparing data from 200 different food guides in nearly 100 different countries. Michelin, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, Gault & Millau, Zagat and sites like Tripadvisor are all included in a unique algorithm that has been specifically designed to rank the restaurants.

Number one on the list is Restaurant de l’Hôtel de Ville in Switzerland which is headed up by chef Benoît Violier, for the U.S. selection it’s Thomas Keller’s Per Se that sits on top.

What’s interesting about La Liste is that it is actually created by the French Foreign Ministry - though funded through private and not public money - it is a government backed initiative that has used the expertise of Antoine Ribaut - a computer expert who invented the algorithm to analyse the massive amount of data.

It’s not entirely sure what exactly the criteria are and exactly how they are analysed and but those responsible say a committee of experts was created to fix a criteria that looks at quality of food, ambience, wine and spirits and service.
