Already ranked as one of the cities with the best quality of life in the world, it is all set to become the greenest in 2020 with a project to satisfy all of its energy needs with renewable sources by 2050. Vancouver, in beautiful British Columbia, with its dense network of cycle tracks, vast urban parks and services for the city’s inhabitants, also offers green culture enthusiasts an incredible variety of restaurants and coffee bars that serve excellent vegan and vegetarian food, deriving from the West Coast tradition, but open to influences from all the cultures embraced by this city.
Whether you plan to go on an adventurous excursion over the Capilano Park suspension bridge or have just run the loop that skirts the Salish Sea around Stanley Park; if it is a business lunch you need in a quiet downtown area, a hipster shopping spree on Main Street or a nostalgic hippy visit to Commercial Drive, here are four of the best vegan restaurants in Vancouver: four spots we have tried out for all you lovers of an all-vegetable cuisine!
Vegan Restaurants in Vancouver: THE NAAM
Vancouver's first vegetarian and vegan restaurant has been running since 1968. It's now an authentic institution for Sunday brunch, but also for any other time you happen to feel peckish. Literally, any time at all because THE NAAM is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day except for Christmas Day. It does not accept bookings, but the turnover is very fast and the extremely courteous staff will find you a seat in no time at all. The rich menu of bowlfuls of seasonal vegetables and sprouts, vegan burgers, Mexican-style dishes and traditional pancakes with maple syrup will make your choice a difficult one.
Not to be missed: The Naam Burger Platter, a vegan burger served with sesame fries, miso gravy and sprout salad.

Vegan Restaurants in Vancouver: ETERNAL ABUNDANCE
If your idea of a concept-store corresponds to an extremely chic venue, forget it. Instead, try to envisage your local grocer also engaged in selling books, home production kits, cold pressed fruit juice and smoothies, craft chocolate, and maple syrup produced by local farmers, as well as offering a corner set–up with about 10 tables for enjoying the delicious 100% organic dishes of the day or choosing from a set menu of main courses, salads and desserts.
Not to be missed: the Marvellous Mushroom Burger served with raw bread.

Vegan Restaurants in Vancouver: GRAZE
An excellent restaurant for enjoying romantic dinners in a relaxing atmosphere; here they serve vegan dishes that are accurately prepared in all respects, including presentation. There are no snacks, burgers or tacos on the menu, but you will find pierogies (dumplings) in coconut soured cream, green garlic risotto and preserved lemon sauce or potato gnocchi served with a smoked tomato coulis.
Not to be missed: choose the cheese board option as your final course with its selection of fresh and mature vegan cheeses all made by the Chef of the Graze.

Vegan Restaurants in Vancouver: the Acorn
This restaurant has been rated as one of the “10 best vegetarian destinations” by The New York Times and it is certainly one of the hypest spots in town. Chefs Clark and Luptak are sure to provide you with an all-vegetable haute cuisine experience. Start by ordering a drink, such as the Old Black, while waiting for your table: waiting times can be rather long here since the Acorn is a small venue and does not accept reservations, except for large parties. But it is well worth it!
Not to be missed: Herbs, fine Italian-style spaghetti with fresh herbs, cherry tomatoes, olives, rocket leaves, olive oil and breadcrumbs.
