El Nacional in Barcelona is a relatively new restaurant idea that is more like a massive food hall inside a posh department store than an actual restaurant, but that’s the idea.
El Nacional want to serve traditional dishes from the Iberian Peninsula and the distinct areas inside are built to reflect this with meat, fish, tapas and rice and a deli section all distinctly separated.
The inside is designed by Lázaro Rosa Violán who took inspiration from Barcelona in the 30’s and 40’s.
The products used are said to be very high quality with ingredients such as red prawns from Palamós, Oysters from Galicia and the South of France, Acorn-fed Iberian ham, cheeses, mushrooms and beer.
Alongside the four restaurant areas there are also four bar sections that each specialise in either cocktails, wine and cured meats, beer and preserves or oysters.
The distinct areas within the the place and focus on such local food make it a truly unique Culinary Stop.
