Leading figures in Italian business, agriculture and culture, including the Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Pope Francis, will present on Saturday as part of a series of debates concerning the main themes of the upcoming Expo Milano 2015 - the first ever Universal Exposition to focus on a central theme of food.
Expo Delle Idee will gather over 500 leading experts at the Hangar Bicocca exhibition site in Milan to take part in debates centred on: sustainable development, cultures and eating habits , nutrition and the economy of the food, food waste and the right to food - all topics that fall under the Expo’s theme of ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’,
Pope Francis will send message of reflection on his views regarding the 'right to food' and the importance of protecting the earth. The former president of Brazil, Lula da Silva, will also send a video, discussing how government actions can make a big difference when trying to make any type of lasting change.
Issues discussed and raised during the debates will help make up the foundation of the Carta di Milano - an official paper on food issues which will be presented to the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon in an attempt to push a new global agreement on the topic of food and create an impacting legacy for Expo Milano 2015. Carta di Milano will also be used throughout the Expo to help generate conversions around the key topics of event.
