Photographer Radu Zaciu has applied his artistic touch to fruits and vegetables, turning them into gorgeous edible lamps. He illuminates produce by carving out the core and introducing a light source.
Some fruits like kiwis, pineapples and strawberries are a cinch to transform. However, sturdier vegetables like potatoes and cauliflower require the use of a drill to create a perfectly chiseled cavity. By applying these techniques Zaciu has been able to highlight the nuances in each fruit or vegetable.
Strawberries emit a powerful glow and their seeds magically transform into tiny enigmatic polka dots. Pineapples look even more exotic as the light illuminates each crevice while cauliflower and cabbage appear otherworldly.
Zaciu’s cool project brings to mind the fruit 'lights' of Caleb Chandler. Unlike the Zaciu, Chandler introduced nails and copper wire into fruits which allowed them to emit their light. Both men are definitely showing the versatility and artistry of humble fruits and vegetables.
