The Costa Coffee Barista of the Year competition was held last week with Prakash Rai who works at Dubai International Airport wowing judges with his ‘Smoking Panda’ coffee which infused with ingredients from his childhood in Nepal.
Rai was competing against seven other finalists from all over the world who were tested on a number of factors including technical ability, knowledge of the industry, passion and flair for coffee and their overall creativity in the signature drink category.
Rai said: “I am extremely proud of becoming Barista of the Year 2014 and happy for my team but I think it will take a while to sink in! It’s all I have been thinking about over the past 255 days, not about winning the title necessarily, but about competing in this great event. “
