There's no doubt acclaimed chef Grant Achatz and business partner Nick Kokonas have made an impact in the Chicago dining scene but they've also made a huge difference in the local community through their philanthropic efforts.
The dynamic duo have been named Outstanding Community Leaders by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Chicago Chapter. The AFP rewards professionals who've volunteered their time fundaraising for meaningful causes. In this case, Achatz and Kokonas raised over $600,000 for head and neck cancer research.
Fans of the Alinea may recall Achatz was diagnosed with stage four tongue cancer a few years ago. This diagnosis changed his life and career forever. He discusses these changes and their positive outcome in the video below.
