Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio has the distinct honor of presenting his gastro documentary at the 29th annual Chicago Latino Food Film Festival, which runs until April 25th.
Acurio's documentary is called Perú Sabe: Cuisine as an Agent of Social Change and features acclaimed chef Ferran Adrià. Together, the chefs travel through Peru discovering how cooking has become a way for young people to change and improve their socio-economic status.
Currently, there are over 80,000 youngsters enrolled in culinary classes across Peru - a dynamic that's unique to the region. Acurio himself has been a part of this gastronomic revolution.
The chef has single-handledly been responsible for elevating Peruvian food to haute cuisine and having it recognized by UNESCO World Heritage. His restaurant Astrid & Gastón currently ranks 35th on the prestigious World's 50 Best Restaurants list, which is sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna.
Perú Sabe was previously screen at the Berlinale earlier this year. Check out a preview of the film below.
