Sotheby's elBulli auction in Hong Kong went off without a hitch yesterday. The most exciting prize of the day? A dinner wtih Ferran Adrià which sold for nearly $30,000.
The Wall Street Journal reports an unnamed Asian telephone buyer paid $28,269 for the exclusive pleasure of dining with the legendary elBulli chef. The dinner for four includes wine from elBulli's cellar.
The auction featured memorabilia and more than 8,000 wines from Adrià's legendary restaurant. Sotheby's sold 98 percent of the el Bulli wine with the highest bid placed for a set of three bottles of Romanée Conti 1990 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. They were sold for $72,244.
All in all, the auction raised $1.8 million, all of which will benefit the elBulli Foundation and its many projects including the BulliPedia culinary encyclopedia.
Sotheby's will hold a second elBulli auction in New York on April 26th.
