You'd think the French would take advantage of the quality wine produced in their country. But a new study reveals people in France are drinking less wine than they did 30 years ago.
Regular wine consumption dropped from 104 liters per year in 1975 to 46.6 liters in 2010. The stunning drop in consuption was revealed in a demographic study issued at the Vinitech, a wine and spirits trade show in Bordeaux, according to Decanter.
The percentage of peole who said they drink wine 'almost every day' fell from 51% in 1980 to 17% in 2010. The study involved the participation of 4,004 people 15 years or older, most of whom considered themselves occasional wine drinkers.
The fact that less French people are saying oui to wine is just the latest bad news to hit wine producers. The country recently reported a champagne shortage due to the lowest harvest in 40 years.
