The vast wine cellar at elBulli will be auctioned by Sotheby's next spring. The proceeds will benefit the elBulli Foundation, a creative hub founded by Ferran Adrià after the closing of his three Michelin star restaurant last year.
Adria announced the wine auction this summer but no dates had been set until now. The wines will be auctioned by Sotheby's in Hong Kong on April 3rd and in New York on April 26th.
The restaurant's cellar contains over 10,000 wines, of which 8,807 bottles will be auctioned. The wine list was carefully crafted by elBulli director Juli Soler and a group of sommeliers. It contains more than 1,600 varieties of wine.
''elBulli restaurant is transforming into elBulli Foundation. Thanks to this sale, our work on gastronomic creativity can continue,'' Adria said in a press release.
