Food culture is finally getting recognized at a national level. Global and American food traditions are being exhibited at two of America's top museums - surely something that would have made Julia Child proud.
New York's American Museum of Natural History has just opened an exhibit called Our Global Kitchen. The exhibit aims to explores human impact on food and its implications for the future.
Visitors will learn about the food production chain from prehistoric to modern times. It's an interactive exhibit with tastings and a working kitchen. The exhibit even includes replicas of the tables of historic figures like author Jane Austen. Our Global Kitchen runs until August 11.
In Washington, DC, the Smithsonian Institution is also devoting a space to food. The National Museum of American History is hositing FOOD: Transforming the American Table, 1950-2000.
The exhibit focuses on the trends that have shaped American culture, from fast food to gourmet dining. FOOD: Transforming the American Table will run for at least two years.
