There has been a wide number of documentaries released over the past few years that focus specifically on the culinary scene of the world. From the elBulli Cooking in Progress, to Jiro Dreams of Sushi and the new Mugaritz B.S.O documentary - it seems that the many angles of the food world have been covered on screen.
However, it aslo seems that wine, as important as it is in any great dining experience, has been somewhat overlooked. Step in Somm a new documentary set to premiere at the Napa Valley Film Festival which focuses on the lives of a number of people training to gain a place in the prestigious Court of Master Sommeliers.
To be accepted the wine lovers must pass a test that fewer than 200 people in the entire world have ever managed to complete. The doc looks at the growing demand and understanding for wine and asks just what it takes to become a sommelier as viewers watch a number of people struggle to learn the skills require to pass the test.
Who would have thought wine could be so upsetting...
