Cooking competion shows are full of challenges. Time constraints, odd locations and surprising ingredients are the usual suspects. Now, a new culinary competition is adding a whole different challenge: time travel.
ABC's new show Time Machine Chefs will feature four popular American chefs stepping back in time and cooking without electricity or running water. Participating chefs are expected to create delicacies ranging from a Medieval royal banquet to a feast for a Chinese emperor without using modern appliances - only utensils and equipment available at time.
This is the second cooking competition show ABC has announced this year. The network is also working on Taste, which will be hosted by Nigella Lawson and Anthony Bourdain. Critics of Time Machine Chefs are compairing it to Heston Blumenthal's Feast, which they feel had better quality dishes than the ones presented in ABC's teaser.
Time Machine Chefs will air on the 16th of August. Participating chefs are:
Art Smith, former personal chef to Oprah Winfrey and executive chef and co-owner of Table fifty-two in Chago and Art and Soul in Washington, DC
Illan Hall, winner of the Top Chef season 2 and owner and executive chef of Gorbals in Los Angeles
Chris Consentino, who has appeared on several Food Network shows and is the executive chef and owner of Incanto in San Francisco and co-owner of Boccalone salumeria
Jill Davie, a private chef in California who won top prize in Food Network's Hot Chefs: South Beach competion and competed on The Next Iron Chef
