Five years ago it was cup cakes, last year it was cake pops and now, if two young female entrepreneurs have anything to do with it, the next sweet food fad will surely be meringues.
Called The Meringue Girls, Alex Hoffler and Stay O'Gorman think that their variation on the classic meringue is set to be the next big sweet treat - better than cup cakes and tastier than cake pops.
The pair recently formed Meringue Girls after appearing on a TV show called Cooks to Market which airs soon on Sky One and the girls have big ideas. As Alex explained to FDL: "Cupcakes, cake pops and macarons have had their day, now is the age of The Meringue. Quintessentially British, the Eton Mess a national favorite but is notoriously hard to make.
Meringue Girls have perfected the ideal mallowy, melt in the mouth, chewy in the middle texture. Calling them 'super cute' the girls currently have a number of flavors, rhubarb & ginger, fresh strawberry & black pepper, chocolate and vanilla.
The sweets are tasty, well flavored and come in a nice bite size shape. With talks currently taking place with some of the UK's leading department stores Alex and Stacy may be onto something with their spin on the classic meringue.
