Barcelona has long been known for its unique Gaudí architecture. Now the city is home to yet another innovative style architecture which was inspired by food and gardening: vegitecture.
Vegitecture was born after a demolished building left an eyesore in one of the city's neighborhoods. The blank wall left behind inspired a vertical garden, which was designed by Capella Garcia Arquitectura.
The plain side wall was outfitted with a 21 meter (69 feet) tall vertical steel structure connected by interior stairs. The structure is now home to a wide assortment of plants, which are watered using a system of pulleys. Not only is this green wall a fine example of vegitecture, it has also become a sanctuary for urban birds.
