During Milan’s Design Week 2012, Zona Ventura (in Lambrate district) becomes the epicenter of young creativity. Design art galleries, creative studios and promising college graduates compose the biggest part of the exhibitors, with most of the booths being characterized by a high degree of experimentation. Then established companies, see in Ventura the perfect venue for expressing a more conceptual version of their DNA.
HENRIK VIBSKOV'S SUITNEST DINNER
Playful food contaminations have a place in several exhibitions of the area, from Henrik Vibskov’s Suitnest Dinner satchel (in the picture at the top of the page) at the Danish Crafts booth to Arabeschi di Latte’s 10th anniversary celebration. The Italian food design collective presented Wunderturte: a project in collaboration with Design Marketo where pieces from the collective’s archive where put into surprise envelopes and distributed to the lucky ones who would find a bean in their piece of cake, which was of course catered by Arabeschi di Latte.
PORCELAIN INSTALLATION BY ROSENTHAL & SAMBONET
Rosenthal & Sambonet set up there an installation describing the process from raw material to finished products, opening a dialogue with how porcelain and stainless steel become objects to be lived through and inedited table setting. A few meters further, Ryosuke Fukusada and Rui Pereira presented Sapore dei Mobili: a curious project of furniture tasting, with a molding technique that creates furniture shaped cakes.
Wednesday 18th was also the day for Carwan gallery’s opening, followed by a Lebanese lunch. At Carwan, limited editions of designer objects that dialogue with middle eastern crafts where the protagonists, with North Africa’s style & culture bible, the Brownbook, teaming up to celebrate the gallery’s new collection.
FOODIE PIT STOP AT VENTURA BAR IN LAMBRATE
Even Ventura Lambrate’s essential pit stop, the Ventura bar, this year has the strongest design-driven connotations possible. The space that will stay open for the whole design week, is furnished appositely for the occasion with the works of Maarten Baas, Fabien Dumas and Bertjan Pot.
In the city center, at night this year’s world design capital, Helsinki, celebrated its prestigious title with a Finnish dinner in collaboration with Monocle magazine, where the New Nordic Kitchen that has established Finland as one of the world’s hottest new food destinations was the protagonist.
