Tokyo-based advertising agency I&S BBDO has designed a very special set of symbolic patterned nori, needed to roll a sushi, for Umino Seaweed. The aim is to help the seaweed company recover from the sales aftereffects of the 2011 Japanese tsunami.
The idea brings together traditional Japanese pattern design and latest cutting technology, with classic patterns (MonYo) from Japanese history carved into the seaweed with a modern laser cutter. The five designs represent longevity, luck, beauty and happiness and are Sakura (Cherry Blossoms), Mizutama (Water Drops), Asanoha (Hemp), Kikkou (Turtle Seashell), Kumikkou (Tortoise Shell).
Thanks to this idea, I&S BBDO Studio has just been awarded as the best design idea at Adfest Festival in Pattaya, Thailand.
