A place were walls are covered not with masterpieces of German expressionism, but sausages: the Deutsches Currywurst Museum, not far from Checkpoint Charlie, reflects the ironicspirit of Berlin.
Inaugurated in 2009 – the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Wall and the 60th birthday of Berliner’s most beloved dish – the museum is entirely dedicated to the famous “ketchup” covered sausages. It’s an entertaining, interactive journey that illustrates the history of currywurst and, in the “sauce room”, visitors can smell the different aromas that make up the sauce.
One can also enter one of the characteristic mobile kiosks (imbisswagen) and, with the help of a computer, you can create a virtual meal in a kind of culinary videogame. At the end of the journey, it’s almost obligatory to buy the «Don't worry—be Curry» T-shirt.
