From the great tea rooms at the grandest and most luxurious hotels, to cozy places where you can sip a cup of tea at 5pm accompanied by delicious sandwiches, jams and cakes. The choice of where to go to participate in the afternoon’s tastiest ritual is never easy, above all in England, the home of the tea room.
This is why there are lots of guidebooks aimed at helping you discover the most interesting, fashionable, elegant or traditional places to sample a cup, and even organize a tour of the nation’s tea rooms. Published by the UK Tea Council, it offers advice on around 20 not-to-be-missed tea rooms, suggestions for tours of the English countryside, walks, shopping, and anecdotes – all on the subject of tea.
