José Andrés, the larger-than-life chef, restaurateur and all-around humanitarian has revealed his next dream project: José Andrés Media, a media company telling stories centred around food.
"It's been my dream to launch José Andrés Media for many years — to tell stories about who we are through the food we eat. Our food content will be as creative, fun, inspiring and authentic as our restaurants. I can't wait to get started," the chef said in a statement.
Variety reported that the new company will “produce unscripted and scripted television series, books, podcasts, and digital short and mid-form content with a focus on food-related stories and characters, and the culture of food”.
First out of the blocks will be a six-episode series set in Spain, with the documentary production company Nutopia, currently being developed for Discovery Plus.
Andrés - the founder of World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organisation feeding people on the front line of natural disasters - knows first-hand the power of food and its ability to connect communities. For him and his team, the new production company will provide a way to reach bigger audiences and connect even more people through food.
"We need longer tables, not higher walls. Our media work will fill those tables with the dishes that help us understand each other, across the world and the generations. Food is so much more than just a plate of ingredients. It tells us where we have come from and where we're going," said Andrés.
