Google is allowing people to order takeout from restaurants by making it easier to connect with restaurants from their browsers.
The search engine is providing user convenience and supporting local businesses by having Google Assistant fill in contact information and payment details automatically on Android phones after you find a restaurant via Google Search.
To use the new feature you just search for the restaurant you wish to order from and then select the ‘Order Online’ button that appears in the restaurant’s information card.

Once you choose the food you want to order you can then tag in Google Assistant to complete the order using your stored contact and payment information from Google Pay and Chrome Autofill.
The feature is new and therefore limited to the US and for pickup orders only for now. The feature will only display for restaurants that have partnered with Google for online ordering and only works on the Google app on an Android phone.
So far, so limited, but Google plans to roll out the feature more widely in the near future, and with the continued growth of the order-in trend, it could be a very useful tool for restaurants to connect directly with their customers for takeout and bypass other tech platforms.
