The Spanish-born chef José Andrés has announced that he will open two new restaurants in Manhattan’s NoMad neighbourhood.
While the true toll of the coronavirus is yet to be seen, with many high-profile restaurants around the world closing their doors for good, there is an air of optimism as restrictions are lifted and stimulus begins to take effect. José Andrés appears to be looking to the future with yet another two restaurants slated to open in a new Ritz-Carlton hotel in Manhattan.
Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup will take charge of food and beverage at a brand new Ritz-Carlton hotel, currently under construction, this autumn, at 1185 Broadway (28th Street).
Two of the chef’s Washington D.C. restaurants, Zaytinya and the Bazaar by José Andrés, will have incarnations in New York, joining his Mercado Little Spain, which remains one of the few food operations still active at the plush Hudson Yards project.
ThinkFoodGroup is expanding in Chicago too, at the Bank of America office tower, with all-day café Joe by the River, to be followed by Bazaar Meat and Bar Ma. Jaleo is planned for Chicago’s River North district, which will bring branches of the Spanish restaurant to five nationwide.
During the past year, Andrés turned his attention to feeding the needy through his non-profit World Central Kitchen. It appears the chef is now directing his energy to the restaurant business as an end to the crisis looms into sight.
