Chef Thomas Keller’s Napa Valley fine dining institution The French Laundry is opening up its wine cellar to the public in aid of its furloughed workers.
The American chef posted on his Instagram that The French Laundry was, for the first time, making available to the public its private cellar of Modicum wine, a private label vintage made exclusively for the restaurant, with a portion of proceeds going to help the furloughed workers of The French Laundry, Per Se, Ad Hoc, Bouchon Bistro, and Bouchon, through the Keller Restaurant Relief Fund.
Chef Keller has been extremely busy during the coronavirus, conducting cooking masterclasses on his Instagram, but also organising to lobby congress for measures to save the restaurant industry, and taking on the insurance industry in order to push them to pay business interruption costs.
Modicum was a co-creation between The French Laundry’s sommeliers and wine producers, and captures the essence of happier times for the restaurant. These vintages are extremely limited and should prove to be sought after by wine enthusiasts and collectors. Those interested can purchase the wine here.
