What is funfetti cake?
Looking for the ultimate birthday celebration cake? Then look no further than a multicoloured multi-tiered 'funfetti cake.' A celebratory cake of fun and dreams, for adults and kids alike.
Imagine an ultra-moist vanilla sponge cake filled with tons of multicoloured sprinkles, topped off with a creamy vanilla buttercream and sprinkled with lashings of sprinkles, and there you have it, funfetti cake.
There isn't a one-size-fits-all either. You can easily go off-piste, and use your imagination to easily whip up a batch of multicoloured funfetti cupcakes, or funfetti muffins.
Funfetti cake also has its high-profile baking fans .... like Christina Tosi from the Milk Bar in New York (see recipe below) and Jennifer Estrella, co-owner of Bake in Chicago.
Who invented the funfetti cake?
Funfetti cake was originally created in 1989 by the Pillsbury Company who also own the trademark to 'Funfetti'. For over 30 years they've fed generations on funfetti icing, brownie mix and even seasonal funfetti mixes. Over the years, there have been plenty of multi-coloured interpretations and riffs on this popular theme.
