Everyone is wondering what restaurants will look like when eventually they reopen. A Dutch art centre Mediamatic, has tested a pop-up restaurant called Serres Séparées with an innovative solution for social distancing – the installed mini glasshouses.
The glasshouses "create a safe and intimate home for partners to reconnect, with the outside world at their own leisure", the restaurant posted on Instagram.
The restaurant is currently closed, however, the test was a success on April 27th leading organisers to say "We'll welcome you from a distance in one of our greenhouses to parley and experience our delicious plant-based gastronomy," when it reopens.
"In these times we are reinspired by contamination precautions and the redesign of togetherness. Our greenhouses protect you from the outside and others while offering you a unique experience of intimate dining," it says on the restaurant's website.
"In restaurants and bars, a separate room is traditionally named in French: "chambre séparée". It suggests a sexy kind of intimacy, here things can happen that should remain hidden from plain sight and not be heard by all. We've decided to name our greenhouses in French too. Although what happens inside will be a lot more public..."
The Netherlands is easing its lockdown restrictions and preparing for a full return to normalcy in due course. The country was not as adversely affected as other European countries with the coronavirus meaning it could be worth watching for creative solutions for the physically distant restaurant in the Phase 2 future.
Serres Séparées offers a four-course plant-based meal for two, with two available time slots. All places at the restaurant are sold out until the end of June.
