Wonderland Restaurants is a new restaurant group founded by a former Disney executive and CEO of The Fat Duck Group, counting former executive chef of Alinea, Mike Bagale as Creative Director, and ex-editor to the Michelin Guide to Great Britain & Ireland for 13 years, Derek Bulmer as Consultant.
It's a cracker line-up of stars of the entertainment and gastronomy world.
And if this wasn’t news enough, they’ve just announced the details of their debut venue: the world’s first Batman-themed fully immersive gastronomic restaurant experience, to open in spring in Soho, London.
Named Park Row after the neighbourhood in Gotham City of the comic book series, the experiential space will be housed in the art deco building that used to house Marco Pierre White’s Titanic restaurant.
Current details tell us that this enormous dining experience space will feature five restaurants and three bars, with a design concept that references various elements from the world of DC. Among these are Pennyworth’s (from Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler) serving British sharing dishes, The Penguin’s Iceberg Lounge, a restaurant and bar offering international food and live entertainment, and the Old Gotham City ‘villainous speakeasy’ cocktail bar.
We’re particularly curious about the Monarch Theatre, that promises a ‘multi-sensory tasting menu experience with 360-degree projection mapping technology to explore the psychology of heroism through food’, according to Wonderland Restaurants.
With top talents such as ex-Alinea Mike Bagale, ex-Sushisamba Claudio Cardoso, and ex-Fat Duck Mark Garston at the helm, there’s no doubt the gastronomic offering will be world-class.
This is definitely one to watch. We’ll be coming back with more details as they surface on both the Wonderland team and Park Row.
In the meantime, follow the progress on Wonderland Restaurant’s Facebook page.
