Zhicheng Wang has been crowned the winner in the Greater China regional final of S.Pellegrino Young Chef following a day of competitive cooking in Shanghai and will represent the region at the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Finale in Milan in May 2020.
The young chef managed to wow the judges over with his signature dish,"What is soy in China." Speaking of his win he said “I wish I could really learn from mentors and jurors and try my best to finish my dish better, to perform better at Milan. I also hope that I can have more chance to communicate with other chefs.”
Zhicheng Wang has won the opportunity to compete for the overall title of S.Pellegrino Young Chef at the final, however, a further three young chefs were also awarded at the semi-final.
The following three chefs were awarded for their ability to reflect S.Pellegrino’s belief in and support of, the transformative power of gastronomy and it’s impact beyond the kitchen:
Fine Dining Lovers Food for Thought Award
Voted for by the online Fine Dining Lovers community, this award will be for the young chef who best represents their personal belief within their dish.
Winner: Ingrid Gonçalves with signature dish "Between The Flavours with his signature dish."
S.Pellegrino Award for Social Responsibility
Voted by Food Made Good, the internationally recognized voice on Sustainability in food, this dish will represent the principle that that food is best when it is the result of sustainable practices.
Winner: Pin Jui Su with the signature dish "After Rain."
Acqua Panna Award for Connection in Gastronomy
Voted by the Regional Mentors, the winner of this award will produce a dish that represents diversity and recognises the beauty of different cultures coming together to create something fresh and exciting.
Winner: Ho Lam Shek with the signature dish, "Stuffed And Marinated Chinese Golden Thread Bream, Fermented Grains, Celtuce, Chenpi Oil"
