Crostini, bruschetta, canapés, finger sandwiches...the world of bread-based appetizers is as varied as it is delicious. Bread is a great vehicle you can top with practically anything and instantly have a tasty appetizer on hand. Blame it on the carb lover in us but we wanted to share our favorite appetizer recipes made with bread. Below you'll find great dishes to recreate and inspire you to develop your own twist on our old favorites. Take a look:
Toasted Bread with Pea Puree and Asparagus
Take advantage of the last weeks of spring and make this colorful toasted bread appetizer with peas and asparagus (pictured above). It's the perfect food to pair with a sauvignon blanc or pinot grigio.
Tomato Bruschetta
Perhaps the most famous of all Italian appetizers, bruschetta can be made in a variety of ways. One of the most popular recipes calls for tomato-mozzarella-basil. This killer combo is made even more heavenly with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
Italian Crostini
Smaller and thinner than bruschetta, Italian crostini are another great appetizer we love. Grilled bread slices are topped with creamy mascarpone with sautéed garlicky kale and tender artichokes.
Salmon Toast
These smoke salmon and dill toasts are ideal for Sunday brunch or a nice bite to eat during a cocktail party. Serve with fresh lemon slices to add a little zing.
Running short on time and need an appetizer in a jiffy? Then you'll love these simple but flavorful cucumber sandwiches. For a more sophisticated look, slice away the crust and cut the sandwiches into small squares or rectangles.
