Despite ongoing concerns about the effect of Covid on the restaurant industry, there is a lot to look forward to next year. From events to much-anticipated restaurant openings and food festivals, here’s a round-up of what we’re excited for in 2022.
Cookbooks
White Rabbit: Recipes & Stories from Russia by Vladimir Mukhin
This is the first cookbook by White Rabbit’s Vladimir Mukhin, sharing his unique vision for reclaiming Russian gastronomy. Combining creative flair with down-to-earth deliciousness, this book is one for the cook who is looking for something different. With stunning illustrations and a beautiful collection of personal stories, this book takes you down the Russian rabbit hole. A preface by Massimo Bottura and forward by René Redzepi shows the regard in which this chef is held. Published in April 2022.

The iconic Italian London restaurant by the Thames is coming out with a cookbook to inspire the little ones to get cooking in the kitchen. With 50 fresh and easy recipes that kids can complete with minimum supervision, this is a great way to inspire the future chef in your family.
New Restaurants
Mauro Colagreco comes to London
The world-leading Mirazur chef is planning three new London restaurants for 2022. The first is a venture with Raffles London at The OWO, a new high-end hotel set to open in Whitehall in late 2022. There are another two restaurants lined up for the new year — one described as “a brasserie with a twist”, with the other dealing in “fine dining” — as well as a “private chef’s table” at a central London location.
Another Atomix in New York
Korean husband and wife team Junghyun and Ellia Park are planning to open another Atomix restaurant in New York’s Rockerfeller Center in spring 2022. The hugely successful pair behind Atomix at New York’s Gramercy Park as well as their innovative Atoboy will open a third location to serve their take on Korean cuisine.
Full circle at Apricity
Chef Chantelle Nicholson, the innovative chef behind the now-closed Tredwell’s, will take up the mantel of her vision for sustainable gastronomy and a circular economy at a new restaurant Apricity in Covent Garden, slated for March 2022.
French iconography in Miami
The duo behind iconic French bistro Pastis will open an outpost in one of the US’s burgeoning fine dining hotspots Miami. The pair, whose New York bistro is one of the coolest restaurants in The Big Apple’s Meat Packing District will bring a winning formula to Florida.
Martinez’s MAZ in Tokyo
After opening a new restaurant Olluco in Moscow, Peruvian chef Virgilio Martinez continues his expansion plans with MAZ in Tokyo, Japan. Martinez is busy building a talent pool of highly-trained, creative chefs to lead his mission to bring Peruvian, sustainable cuisine around the world.
Gucci’s got Seoul
The Italian fashion house has announced the fourth iteration of their highly successful Osteria Gucci, helmed by maestro Massimo Bottura. Slated for some time in 2022, the new restaurant will open on the fourth floor of its recently opened GUCCI GAOK flagship store in Seoul’s vibrant Itaewon district.
Dublin is bubbling
The Irish capital can look forward to new openings from two of its brightest culinary talents. Chef Mark Moriarty will go it alone with a new restaurant and deli, while former chef at Geranium and Noma, Cúán Greene is currently sizing up locations for his new Ómós concept in the city.
Tasting Australia
After a hard year for restaurants Down Under, a whopping line-up has been announced for Tasting Australia in May 2022 including an outback dinner in Coober Pedy with Attica’s Ben Shewry; Town Square dinners by Maggie Beer and Cheong Liew; Chin Chin’s first Adelaide pop-up; a natural wine party in a secret warehouse, and much, much more.
Bocuse d'Or regional finals
The international chef competition will continue with the world's culinary talent battling it out in regional legs for a place in the grand final in 2023. 2022 will see regional finals for Africa and the Americas with the Europe final set for 23-24 March, 2022, during Sirha Budapest.
World’s 50 Best MENA
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants will make its first foray into the MENA area with a brand new list dedicated to the culinary artistry of the region. The event will take place the inaugural edition of Middle East & North Africa’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, to be hosted in Abu Dhabi, on 7 February 2022.
