Talented Young Chef Angelo Scirocco has been busy building on his success following last year's win at S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2015 for Africa and Middle East, taking on a brand new hip Johannesburg joint, Urbanologi, with a cutting edge culinary philosophy to match.
Based inside the Mad Giant Brewery, in the heart of the oldest part of town, the new appropriately named venture takes its inspiration from the urban space in which it's located. The open plan urban kitchen/brewery space, given stylistic touches by local artisanal designers being reflected in the equally creative menu.
Urban Garde Cuisine
Far from resting on his laurels, post Young Chef win, Scirocco has used the momentum to launch himself into establishing a new creative culinary concept for which he has coined his own term: 'urban garde cuisine.'
"The essence of our food comes from using the highest quality fresh Asian and local ingredients while harnessing the character of street food with an avant–garde thought process," he explains.
Guests will be treated to street style food with Japanese and Korean influences, including Kushiyaki, Yakitori and Teriyaki cooked over a Japanese grill.
The Lab
The creative vibe continues in the on–site food lab, as experiments with food and beer yeasts evolve in collaboration with the Mad Giant's head brewer and "Mad Wizard" working on new flavours, processes, techniques and ideas. Eclectic and exciting food and drink ideas are a guarantee.
