Hedvig A Kushner, admits to making a lot of smoothies. And whilst most of us are nonchalantly slurping on our less than beautiful, but nonetheless, tasty concoctions, the Swedish creative wanted to know more.
Having become interested in how the colour developed during the smoothie making process, the art director Kushner noticed similarities with colour mixing paint. Adding ‘strawberries leads to pink hues, and spinach to subtle greens ‘ she noted.
It was this discovery which led Kushner to her key question, is it possible to create tasty smoothies in any Pantone color?
Fortunately for us thirsty smoothie fans, she has saved us the trouble by eloquently answering this question in her food come art project. Named ‘Pantone Smoothies’ she has essentially created a series of coded juices that correlate to the palette matching system.
The process is pretty simple she writes on her website ‘I buy coloured paper from a local art store, match it to a Pantone swatch, and make the smoothie to match whatever colour the swatch is. Carefully adding fruit and vegetable-based ingredients to the mix. Three photographs complete the series, forming a colourful and convenient guide — one of the additives, meticulously arranged; another of the glassed juice blend; and the final shot of each packaged ‘pantone smoothie’.
We think the resulting minimalist photos are rather appealing, and hope that the accompanying smoothie recipe tastes just as good. See below for some of her stylish pantone smoothies and accompanying recipes. Head over to designboom for many more images.
