3 bottles of whiskey discovered frozen in the Antarctica in 2010 are to be returned to their original hiding place in a bid to protect the legacy of Antarctic exploration.
The Mackinlay bottles of whiskey belonged to the explorer Ernest Shackelton who took them on his Nimrod adventure back in 1907.
The Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key, was on hand to help return the bottles but not before the distiller who owns Mackinlay had them analyzed so they could rediscover their lost recipe.
A limited edition run of 50,000 bottles was created using a sample taken from the original bottles.
