British actor and film director Ralph Fiennes has been cast as a chef and lead character in a new psychological thriller The Menu.
Described by Deadline as 'a darkly comedic psychological thriller set in the world of eccentric culinary culture', the film will centre on a young couple (one half played by Anya Taylor-Joy of Netflix's The Queen's Gambit) who travel to a remote island to eat at an exclusive restaurant.
Fifty-nine-year-old Fiennes will star as the restaurant's acclaimed chef, who prepares a 'lavish tasting menu' for the duo, complete with some 'shocking surprises', yet to be revealed.
Fiennes has previously admitted to being a 'great chef', with runny scrambled eggs being his speciality dish, so it sounds like he's up to the task of cooking on camera. Though it remains to be seen how he'll create the shock factor.
The film will be directed by Mark Mylod of HBO’s Succession, and produced by Adam McKay through Hyperobject Industries, along with Betsy Koch.
