It seems that the check in location network Foursquare is still ruling the roost when it comes to restaurant marketing. In a recent study published by Restaurant Sciences and Restaurant News Foursquare outperforms other social networks across a number of key areas.
86 % of the restaurants surveyed had a presence on Foursquare with a close second coming with 81% of venues on Yelp. The interesting point comes from the comparison between restaurants that have a presence on Foursquare and their own mobile site.
72 % of independent restaurants have a listing on foursquare but n 5% have a mobile site for their venue. Could it be that new start up restaurants and smaller independent businesses are avoiding the costly work of building their own mobile friendly site in favor of building their own profile on Foursquare?
Chained restaurants who took part in the survey said they reeve around 300 check ins a month through customers using Foursquare which sowsth uptake among consumers. It certainly seems that for the moment Foursquare is dominating the restaurant scene but with technology and apps moving so fast these days - who know if this will still be the case next.
