Six crews of fightfighers battled a blaze that broke out yesterday morning at a restaurant in Chile owned by acclaimed Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio, according to local news reports.
Authorities report there were no injuries as a result of the fire that originated in the kitchen of Madam Tusan restaurant located at the Parque Arauco shopping center in Santiago de Chile, Radio Bio Bio reports. The fire reportedly began at 11 a.m. in an air vent but was quickly contained although clouds of smoke could be seen throughout the neighborhood.
Using his Twitter account, Acurio told fans the damages were minimal and the restaurant would remain open during normal operating hours. Peruvian publication La Prensa has posted pictures of the whole ordeal.
Madam Tusan serves the Peruvian-Chinese fusion cuisine that chef Acurio has popularized throught the world. Acurio's restaurant empire extends from Latin America to Europe, with his most recent restaurant opening beng Tanta in Barcelona.
Acurio's flagship restaurant Astrid & Gastón in Lima currently ranks 14th in The World's 50 Best Restaurants awards sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna.
