Rene Redzepi's Noma is once again at the top of the World's 50 Best Restaurants: the Copenhagen restaurant jumped back into the number one spot after holding the title for three consecutive years between 2010 and 2012.
The crowd went absolutely wild as Redzepi soaked in the announcement with a look of genuine surprise across his face. Speaking after receiving the award Rezepi said: “This is too fu****g crazy” pointed at his colleagues and added “How many of you expected this?"
He then read a letter he said he had wanted to read when Noma was awarded the first position in 2010 but was too nervous. He thanked everyone for believing in his restaurant and then focused on thanking what he described as a “dream team.” How few people first believed in Noma when it opened and how they were called silly names for their approach to cuisine, he smiled at the crowd: “Wood sorrel conquered caviar.”
2nd place was awarded to last year’s winner El Celler De Can Roca in Spain with 3rd place going to Osteria Francescana in Italy.
