  • Mix in some hard-boiled eggs for a delicious egg salad.

How to store tartare sauce

Cover your tartare sauce and keep it in the refrigerator for up to a week. We don’t recommend freezing it.

The history of tartare sauce

Inevitably, the history of tartare sauce is a hazy one. It is most likely to have been created by the French sometime after the 18th century when mayonnaise was first invented. The sauce was initially used as a condiment for the raw meat dish, beef tartare, which would explain its name.

It’s a classic! Once you’ve made your tartare sauce, here’s a recipe for the fish, chips and mushy peas to go with it.
