The Michelin Guide to France 2017 has been released and the big news is that chef Yannick Alléno’s Le 1947 at the Cheval Blanc hotel in Courchevel in the French Alps is France’s newest three star restaurant. Alléno also retained three stars at Pavillon Ledoyen in Paris.
"It's a great reward after eight years of hard work," said the chef (below). "I could really express what I wanted in this little restaurant perched in the mountains, with only five tables and 15 employees."
All existing three star restaurants retained the highest Michelin rating, meaning France now has 27 in total.

There are 12 new two star restaurants, including Gordon Ramsay's Le Pressoir d'Argent in Bordeaux, La Maison des Bois in Manigod and Paris's Restaurant Kei, and there was a long awaited second star for Alexandre Gauthier's La Grenouillère in La Madelaine-sous-Montreui. Gauthier said he was pleased the Michelin Guide had shown faith in his Modernist approach finally: "Cooking will always remain a place of expression and total freedom," he said.
There are also 57 new one star restaurants, including Fanny Rey's eponymous restaurant located in L'Auberge Reine Jeanne in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence – the only female chef amongst the new stars.
70 new stars were awarded in total. France now has 616 Michelin-starred restaurants, an increase of 16 from 2016.
