Back in 2014 we introduced you to Lucy Sparrow, the British artist who had a unique idea for an installation: a cornershop where all the products were made entirely of felt – confectionary, newspapers, everything. The idea was to highlight the demise of the local newsagent. Take a look at the results here.
Sparrow stitched all 4000 products by hand, which took seven months in total, before setting up in a disused shop in Bethnal Green in East London – quite an undertaking, we’re sure you agree. She funded the project through a Kickstarter campaign, eventually raising $18,000 and now she wants to do it all over again, but this time in New York.

The artist plans to set–up shop in Manhattan in summer 2017, for a total of three weeks. As with the original installation, you’ll be able to purchase the products too. ‘The Convenience Store,’ as it will be known, will again be funded through Kickstarter. You can donate here.
We’re looking forward to seeing Sparrow’s interpretations of everyday US products. Watch the artist in conversation below.
