Beyond the giant neon fish that hangs outside the refurbished building in Berkeley Square, lays an opulent new restaurant aptly named ‘Sexy Fish’.
Combining mid-century glamour and unique art work on an impressive scale, the 190 seater London restaurant is due to open on 19th October. A sassy interior clad in contemporary works of art offers select diners a 48 seat private Coral Reef Dining Room, restaurant, sit down bar, the world's largest coral reef tank and an open plan kitchen serving pan Asian seafood.
Owner and restaurant tycoon, Richard Caring, of Le Caprice, The Ivy and J.Sheekey, collaborated with two design greats including Damien Hirst and architect Frank Gehry to create a “magic mix of a compelling physical environment, full of lively contemporary art” the Daily Meal were told by the Project Operations Manager.
No expense has been spared in what is believed to be “one the most expensive collections of new artworks created for a London restaurant” according to the Evening Standard. Acclaimed billionaire artist Damien Hirst has created a pair of bronze mermaids that will bookend the bar amongst other stand alone pieces. Aside from the fish lamps, Gehry has also created a 13ft glossy black crocodile that is displayed on the restaurant wall.
As for the food, young British Chef Ben Orpwood (previously of Zuma Istanbul and Dubai) will be at the helm of an "alluring menu designed to appeal not only to the fashionable Mayfair crowd, but also a wider audience of food and art lovers.” Laura Montana, Caprice Holdings’ new projects operations director told The Daily Meal.
With a pan Asian focus, dishes are billed to include Isle of Man Queenie scallops with ponzu and yuzu ‘snow’, as well as ‘Japrese’ salads of tomato, marinated tofu, shiso and sherry vinegar, report The Square Meal.
