Ferran Adrià and Gaston Acurio are in New York today to visit the United Nations Headquarters. The famous chefs will launch the American premiere of their new Documentary,Peru Sabe, a film that looks at the rise of culinary students in Peru along with Peruvian cuisine and Peruvian culture on a whole.
The duo decided to make the film together after Ferran visited Gaston's home country during the Mistura festival and was blown away by the huge number of students now attending culinary classes - there are currently over 80,000 culinary students throughout Peru.
As Adria told us back in April "There is a sort of culinary revolution taking place right now in Peru. If you ask young people what they want to be - a footballer, a model, a movie star?, they say 'a chef'."
The film is an intimate look at Peru through the eyes of local farmers, ingredients and young passionate students who are learning to cook and spread their cultural heritage throughout the world.
Gaston has long been an ambassador for Peru and the power of food in promoting the cultural and culinary diversity of his home country. A premiere today at the UN Headquarters is a huge deal, signifying a growing political focus on cuisine and the power it has in helping a country. A message that both Gaston and Ferran have been singing for a long time.
