In breaking news in the culinary world, culinary legends Alain Ducasse and Albert Adrià have announced they will be opening a restaurant together in Paris later in the year.
The world's most decorated chef, Ducasse, will join forces with Adrià - one of Spain's most creative forces, recognised by TIME magazine as one of the 13 most influential people in the world of gastronomy - to open a restaurant in Paris towards the end of the year, in a project that will start out as a 100-day trial.
It's reported that the French chef approached Adria with the immortal question: "Do you want to have fun?" To which, Albert Adrià replied: “Sure, always”. Ducasse followed up with “How about doing something together?”, and a new chapter was born.
Ducasse announced the news, in a cryptic instagram post with a photo of the duo together, and the message: "Precisely 31 years ago @albert.adria.acosta had travelled to Monaco to taste my cuisine at the @lelouisXVmonaco which had just been awarded three Michelin stars. After all this time, I am very happy to find him again in Paris, alongside @RomainMeder, to offer you a unique gastronomic adventure! I'll tell you more about it in the coming weeks."
As with many momentous occasions, timing is all, and despite big changes for both chefs this year - with Ducasse leaving Plaza Athenee after over two decades, and Albert's elBarri Group dissolving - the new project would seem to offer a new challenge for both. The pop-up style trial period will allow them to settle in together, which they've likened to a couple living together before getting married.
As Adrià writes on social media: "It is not very common for two people like us to get together; It’s as if Messi joins Ronaldo and they try to see how it goes together.”
Little is yet known about a location for the restaurant, or what surprises it will hold, but given the two culinary greats behind it, it has the makings of one of the most exciting openings of the year. Reservations are set to open at the end of August.
