Five new solidarity kitchens have joined World Central Kitchen relief effort in Spain in recent days, the NGO of the renowned Spanish chef José Andrés helping feed those affected most by the current coronavirus crisis.
In the country's capital, Madrid, one of the hardest-hit areas in Spain, Diego Guerrero's two Michelin starred Dstage restaurant and Medems Catering, chef Pepa Muñoz of restaurant El Qüenco de Pepa, which will operate in front of the kitchen of NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding, and Bulbiza in Madrid, Fierro in Valencia and chef Carles Weaver in Barcelona have also joined the efforts.
"We are very happy to see how this gastronomic solidarity movement is growing and in just one week we have gone from one kitchen to more than five. We are already analyzing the situation and needs in the different Spanish geographical territories to start work where help is most urgent. In Madrid, we have received such a positive response, that for now, we have covered the needs for the next weeks, ” said Javier García, Secretary-General from World Central Kitchen.
In just five days since the solidarity action began, many chefs in the sector have already joined and many more have shown their interest in collaborating, with the goal to keep World Central Kitchen's help growing in the coming days.
The Madrid City Council has also transferred a municipal kitchen located in Santa Eugenia to join the World Central Kitchen network of kitchens and thousands of daily food rations continue to be distributed in the different cities through the Food Bank in collaboration with different NGOs, local and regional.
