You may love the rum-sour kick of a classic daiquiri, but how well do you know this classic cocktail's other family members? Like its vibrant summer-loving strawberry daiquiri sibling. Perfect for sipping by the pool on a hot summer's day.
This short, neat drink is both easy to make and relies upon few ingredients, making it the go-to cocktail at home. What's more, you can turn up the chill factor depending on the heat of the day.
Go for the original shaken strawberry daiquiri in a chilled margarita glass to sip on a warm summer's evening, or a slushie-style frozen strawberry daiquiri when you need to cool off.
What is a Daiquiri?
Daiquiri is a family of cocktails whose main three ingredients are typically rum, lime juice, and sugar or sugar syrup.
Daiquiris originally hail from Cuba and were reportedly the favourite drink of writer Ernest Hemingway. Naturally, there's a Hemingway daiquiri as well as other fruity twists on the perennial favourite, like banana and avocado, and of course, the vibrant strawberry daiquiri.
What is in a Strawberry Daiquiri?
Strawberry daiquiri is a blended cocktail made with a blend of fresh muddled whole strawberries, rum, sugar syrup and lime juice.
Frozen strawberry daiquiri offers a slushier, cooler and longer drink made with frozen strawberries and/or crushed ice.
What Rum should I use for a Daiquiri?
A dry white rum is the crisp, clean alcoholic backdrop for the daiquiri, which is ideally 87 - 89 percent proof. Use the best quality rum you can find.
Fresh Strawberries or Frozen Strawberries?
If you want to make a fruit-forward frozen strawberry daiquiri, use loads of frozen strawberries, or a combination of fresh and frozen, instead of crushed ice in a frozen strawberry daiquiri.
You can always freeze fresh berries in advance, so that you use less ice to get that slushy consistency, keeping your cocktail flavour true and strong.
