The team behind Eleven Madison Park, which this year topped the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, are selling off some of its iconic furniture and fittings, as massive refurbishment work gets underway at the Manhattan location.
Chef Daniel Humm, Will Guidara and the crew are currently in the Hamptons with the EMP Summer House, their summer pop-up, while the restaurant is totally gutted in preparation for reopening later this year.
Humm and Guidara have just signed a new 20-year lease on the building, but this will be the first time they’ve renovated the dining room and kitchens.
As Eater reports, many of the restaurant’s furniture and fittings are for sale now through the restuarant’s online store, including brass railings, chandeliers, bar furniture, plates, and cookware. Unfortunately, the restaurant’s instantly recognisable sign has already been sold – for $10,000.
“The idea of throwing these things away, or putting them in storage, breaks our hearts - we desperately want them to find new homes,” reads a statement on the website.
The EMP team certainly had a lot of fun tearing all this stuff down following their final service in June, as this short film captures.
