If you’ve ever complained about the price of your morning cup of coffee, spare a though for New Yorkers, who can now get their hands on, should they desire, an $18 cup of coffee, reportedly the most expensive in the US.
The coffee, brewed from the pricey geisha bean, which can go for as much as $350 a pound, can be found at the new Extraction Lab, a filter-only cafe in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The bean is grown at high altitude in Panama, hence the expense, and is revered by coffee connoisseurs.
Extraction Lab use a special machine called a ‘Steampunk’ to brew the luxury joe, which is operated by an iPad and special engineers/baristas – naturally.
What can you expect from the coffee? “Sweetness, clarity and sparkling flavour,” apparently. All we know is it better be the best coffee we’ve ever tasted for $18.
